Pilgrimage to Rome for the Canonization of Saints Marianne Cope & Kateri Tekakwitha

A family, long-time members and supporters of The Franciscan Church of the Assumption, will underwrite the renovation of the north entrance (side entrance) of Assumption after reading about the proposed project in a letter from Father Brad about his wish list of priorities for 2012.

In the oft-locally repeated words of Pope John Paul II, it looks like "We will have a Saint for Syracuse."

The Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities revealed in an announcement made Dec. 6, the Vatican’s Congregation for the Causes for Saints confirmed the medical and theological decisions regarding the second miracle necessary for the canonization of Bl. Mother Marianne Cope.

Close your eyes for a moment and remember the last time you were in Assumption Church.  Was it for a weekend Mass?  Was it a funeral for a relative or friend?  Perhaps it was for a wedding, maybe even your own.  Now try to remember what you heard.  Chances are you’re thinking about music – specifically organ music.

Nancy and Bob Miano, long-time members and volunteers at The Franciscan Church of the Assumption, were awarded The Immaculata Medallion by Bishop Cunningham, in conjunction with the 125th Anniversary of the Diocese of Syracuse.

Assumption Church's Franciscan Place had over 40 participate in its Advent Series: An Approach to End-of-Life, funded by a 2011 McDevitt Family Life Grant made available through a bequest from the Estate of Kay and Bob McDevitt, devout Catholics, life-long supporters and friends of the Diocese of Syracuse that administers the Grants. The three-part series comprised Moral Decisions and the End of Life December 1, 2011 led by Reverend Charles Vavonese; Spiritual Care and the End of Life: Listening to the Story with Sister Alice Dunlop, OSF on December 6 and A Franciscan Approach To Death and Dying on December 13 with Sister Kathleen Osbelt, OSF.
